Quill Engineering preparing parts for CMMPreparing Parts for Inspection with Quill Engineering

Successful, safe removal of coatings and contaminants, pre-inspection, in-house.

Parts and fixtures have been collected for measurement in a state that has challenged the Quill Engineering CMM team. However, this is not a problem at Quill as another division of the Quill International Group has stepped up to the mark, the Quill Falcon.

The Quill Falcon Kwikblast System removes a range of coatings, corrosion and residues leaving surfaces clean, contaminant free and profiled to SA 2½, HB 2½, SB2 ½ NACE VIS 9, WAB6/10 in seconds, and has been used worldwide for over 20 years.

The complete removal of all coatings, such as paints, varnishes, plating, and heavy oxides must be complete to ensure that defects are open to the surface of the part.

“Parts and fixtures which have been used, and are therefore covered in production fluids, like coolant oils and swarf, are known to be difficult to clean without damaging the surfaces.” Explained Alison Campbell, CMM Service Manager from Quill Engineering

“However, with the use of the Quill Falcon and a specially formulated blast media, we are able to not only clean and prepare the parts for inspection successfully – we actually return the parts in a better condition than when we received them. Recently a customer commented that the NDT cleaning of their fixture had never been better.”
